Commitment #2 Get Back to Nature

“Nature Cures – Not the Physician” – Hippocrates

It seems that more and more we are finding ourselves spending most of our day indoors and only being exposed to the sunshine when walking from indoors to our cars and back indoors again.  Time under artificial light and being fixated on screens is robbing us of the essential life giving source of the sun and the high energy healing benefits of getting back to nature.

Well COMMITMENT #2  GET BACK TO NATURE

There is quite a bit of research coming out about the benefits of nature in warding off depression, reducing stress, lowering blood pressure and even preventing cancer.  As the father of Modern Medicine Hippocrates stated, “Nature Cures – not the physician”.   Nature has the power to heal, it’s free of charge and right outside your back door.  Medication like this just doesn’t come in pill form.

Getting outdoors means exposing all of your senses to the healing power of Mother Nature.  Sunlight is essential for our health and all life on this planet.  We are designed to be exposed to moderate levels of sunlight.  A reasonable amount of direct sunlight on our skins is critical for our wellness in producing Vitamin D, enhancing our immune system function and preventing disease.  A daily dose of the sun’s vital rays have a way of uplifting our spirits and sparking an attitude adjustment.

The natural sounds of nature are, in and of themselves, healing therapy.   Soothing sounds from birds chirping or bubbling brooks can calm the mind and body and lower your stress level downward a few decibels.  Get outdoors and perk up your ears to the harmonic sounds of nature.

Have you ever heard of negative ions?  Well, these little particles are found close to moving water sources like breaking waves, crashing waterfalls, or rushing streams and rivers and according to a study conducted at Columbia University, researchers found that these particles produced natural anti-depressants and energy boosters.  The study concluded that after breathing negative ions for an hour the subjects’ blood lactate levels dropped 33 percent, creating a measurable increase in their energy levels.

Enjoy the sunshine on your skin, smell the scents of the flowers, listen to the sounds of the wind rustling through the trees, eat lunch outdoors a few times a week, take a walk on a beach and deeply breathe in the freshness of the ocean air.  Sink your toes down into the cool damp sand and best of all remember to stop and take a moment to gaze at the setting sun.
